02 Reading materials for school children.
Initial tests suggested that there is a good level of literacy amongst adults and young people, so an extensive adult literacy programme is not needed. However, one area where the church is being asked to help is in the production of reading materials for school children. In Formosa Province, there is a bilingual education programme in the Indian primary schools, but little or no reading materials are provided.
We would work in conjunction with the Toba bilingual teaching assistants, in producing booklets based on Bible stories for distribution within primary schools in the Toba region.
We would like to seek one Toba person to work on the production of texts to be used in these booklets.
Funding for this project will initially come from within our proposed budget. However, in the future we hope to be able to receive further funding specifically for literacy work, to cover support for a Toba worker and printing costs.
