Although inflation is still high in Argentina, the exchange rate of the pound against the Argentine peso has stabilised over the past year, and we give thanks for God’s continued provision for our needs. He is faithful!
We have been assured of support from the new CMS until the end of the year, when we expect to be in England once again, with plans to visit all our supporters. In order to meet our budget requirements, we are likely to be visiting new churches as well.
We believe the Lord is leading us to stay on with the Tobas, to work new projects related to the newly translated New Testament. This will be a vital extension of the translation work, which is aimed at giving everyone access to the Word of God, in a people whose own language remains strong within the wider Spanish speaking community, but with low literacy rates.
For this year, the Diocese of Northern Argentina and CMS have agreed that Michael works on some basic literacy materials to help the Toba people get used to reading the New Testament once it arrives. Moving into 2011, Michael hopes we can begin to meet a huge new challenge: translate the Old Testament!
Therefore, from now on we need to raise funds to cover 100% of our budgeted costs, and this will need to come from individual supporters and link churches, with agreed amounts to be provided by each one. This is a change to the way support for Mission Partners was provided through SAMS, but having an agreed support level will give us stability to continue with our ministry during the years to come.
Here’s the crunch: we’re probably looking at overall costs in the region of £35 000 per year, over a five year period.
