Good News for the Tobas

June 2011

Michael and Silvia Browne
with Kevin and Christopher

Make this your common practice: confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed. The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.

James 5:16 [The Message]

Your prayers can
change the world!

Our well-being as a family - Pray for spiritual refreshment for us week by week, and for protection at all times, for safe travel on the roads, and for good health. Give thanks that Michael’s diabetes (latent type 1) is being controlled with diet and exercise, and that Kevin and Chris are not suffering now with allergies. Pray for Silvia still with treatment for premature menopause.

Michael’s ministry with the Tobas - Give thanks that Hilario and José Manuel have nearly finished the first draft of the Minor Prophets. Michael now has to work through the checking stages. Meanwhile we plan to move into the area of literacy materials. Give thanks that two music workshops for the Tobas have already been run, and pray for our plans to continue later in the year.

The Toba churches and leaders - pray for pastors, deacons and their families, especially Pastor Kichi who is the Toba rep. on the Diocesan Council. Pray too for René Pereira’s ministry amongst the Toba and Wichí young people. Pray for the translators Osvaldo, José and Hilario and their families. Give thanks that the New Testaments are being read and studied in family groups: pray they will continue to impact many lives. Pray for Bishop Nick Drayson and Catherine based in Juárez: for effective ministry in building up and strengthening the Toba churches.

The Pilagá churches - pray that God would open up ways to work together with the Pilagá Indians, whose language is very similar to Toba. They also have the New Testament, and audio recordings of the Gospels and Acts. And they are keen to continue with translation of the Old Testament, but there is no one else available to coordinate the work.

Young people and children in Salta - give thanks for Nano and the group of teenagers playing volleyball on Saturday afternoons, with some now attending the youth group on Sunday evenings. The children’s outreach is also going well, with some 30 children attending on Sunday afternoons. Pray for Nilda and Valeria leading this, in a local community hall.

Argentina - Pray for President Cristina Fernández and the national and provincial governments, to seek God’s perspective in tackling recession, inflation and unemployment. The run-up to presidential elections in October is well underway.

Please pray for the following:
